April on MySpace Karaoke

June 23rd, 2008 by April

Okay, I can’t believe I made this public, but I thought “SCREW IT!”.

I recently became aware of MySpace Karaoke and just my luck, they added a song I’ve been singing since high school. Please….. be kind.

Events

Its hard to believe that it was three months ago when I blogged about the Eddie Izzard show. Time goes by so fast.

We attended the show last night in Dallas. We rented a car for the trip and they gave us a 2007 Pontiac G6. It was sooooooooooooooo awesome. I would totally buy one. We arrived early and sprung for valet parking.

My Favorite Dress!!!!!I wore my favorite polka dot dress and Jeff wore black slacks with a black dress shirt and a red tie.

We had decent seats, but there was one problem. The guy sitting next to me apparently had a body odor issue. And it was baaaaaaaaaad. It was so bad that Jeff asked if there was any way we could be moved. The usher tried really hard to find other seats, but it was a sold out show.

Its okay, once Eddie started the show, we forgot about the smell (as much as we could). The show was absolutely hilarious. Very similar to the Dress to Kill routine. Not the same jokes of course, but lots of history references, etc.

In fact, it was EXACTLY like this (same set, same outfit, same same same):

Eddie Izzard after the Stripped showThen, after the show, we made our way to the back door of the venue to see if he would come out. He did. But he didn’t have time to sign autographs or take pictures. Jeff begged him, but he couldn’t. He did do a Q&A similar to this one.

<--- The only picture I was able to snap was this crappy one. Jeff was so disappointed. But we still had a lot of fun.

Remo GotziTomorrow is another big event for us. Jeffs band is playing at the grand opening of The Music Vault. This is a big show for them and we are all excited (and nervous!).

I made a flyer for the band. ————->

Any parents and friends out there who would like one are welcome to have one.

So yeah…. not much work getting done over here and my bank account is in shambles. Gotta get to work! Over & out!

xoxo,
April

Aunt Flow. I always hated that phrase.

Tampons! This is just an observation. And I am eternally grateful to my hubby for doing me this favor. A thing that 99.5% of men dread, but something that most married men will have to do at least once in their lives….. buy tampons.

The thing is, whenever a man buys tampons, he inevitably brings home the worst kind of generic pieces of crap you’d only ever use if you were stuck in a cave and had no other options. Why is this? Have they never heard the words Tampax or Kotex? What the hell is going on here? I suppose they just block out the tv commercials the minute they begin?

If I buy condoms, which I do occasionally, I don’t bring home WalMart brand condoms, do I? Of course not. Because, my dear boys, your penises are our friends and its first class all the way for you. Yes, it could be that we buy you the best out of fear that the generics wont protect as well. But really, if your penis was bleeding every month, we would still go out of our way to make sure “he” was all cozy and well taken care of. Why don’t we get the same respect?????

Old Film Recos

May 26th, 2008 by April

I like old movies. Some people find them boring. I can’t get my husband to sit through one. I am completely fascinated by them. The fact that woman ALWAYS looked glamorous is mind-boggling, considering I can’t seem to get out of my sweat pants and straightening my hair is a god forsaken chore. One of my favorites is Katharine Hepburn. I recommend these two films, which are not boring in any way whatsoever:

Bringing Up Baby (1938)

Desk Set (1957)

Bringing Up Baby is not about bringing up a baby. “Baby” is actually a leopard. And Katharine is a klutz. A gorgeous klutz.

Music Overload

May 22nd, 2008 by April

So here’s some more music that I am into right now. The artists include The Republic Tigers, Islands, Ladytron, Mates of State, Carolina Liar, Pendulum, and Death Cab For Cutie:

(Amazon.com music preview widget should load below. If not, refresh page.)

I don’t even wanna know how much money I’ve given to iTunes.

Oh, and I so want to own this dress:
Neapolitan Colorblock Dress with Shrug

but at $145, that won’t be happening anytime soon!!!
I did, however, buy this dress last week:
Retro Dress

and as my luck would have it, its a tad bit too small (I bought the biggest size). So I guess I should get my fat ass on my treadmill if I want to wear it!

Damn

AprilI thought it was awesome. I had finally figured it out (or so I thought) and was excited to share. But when I finally did, he didn’t say a word and moved onto something else. Now I’m left wondering how bad I really suck at it. It must be really bad or there wouldn’t have been the silence. Maybe it was only good in my mind because I wanted it so badly.

All my life, I’ve wished I could be one thing. Okay, two if you count being thin. Do you have those “If only ________, then my life would be perfect” moments? I usually fill in the blank with these:

1. I could lose 50 pounds
2. I won the lottery
3. I had finished with a bachelors degree
4. I could leave my fucking hair alone and let it get long
5. I could sing

Its number five on the list, but its number one in my heart. I’d take it over losing the weight or even winning the lottery, I think. Something inside me wants it so bad, and I’ve been working on it as much as I can, but I’m still not pleased. I had a small breakthrough, I thought, but the response wasn’t there.

It probably sounds all cryptic and confusing to you, but makes perfect sense to me, and I guess thats all that matters. Sometimes my blog is used for cheap therapy.

That’s a new pic of yours truly taken yesterday. Its one of the rare photos of myself that I actually like. I took about 15 of them and was only pleased with 1. That speaks volumes.

Karaoke Heaven

May 5th, 2008 by April

karaokeI died and went to karaoke heaven last Thursday night, where I gave my best performance ever. I started doing some vocal training a few days before. On karaoke night, I was doing those silly vocal exercises in the shower. You know…. the ones that make you sound like a drooling baby? Well, they must’ve worked because I actually did a good job singing! I chose You Were Meant For Me by Jewel. I had forgotten about that song until I heard someone sing it last week, so I thought I would give it a try. Jeff says I did well because I didn’t have time to think. I do have this BIG problem with thinking too much, which is why I literally lay there for 2 hours before I finally fall asleep. Anyway, I put my name on the list early because I was afraid of someone else getting to that song before me. Before I knew it, they were calling my name and everything moved so fast. I literally sang in a way I never thought I could sing and now… I just wanna sing sing sing all the time! Now I have to come up with more songs for karaoke night. Any ideas?

More music I love lately….

Remo Gotzi, Smokin’

April 19th, 2008 by April

Well, I’ve been crafty, but just digitally lately. I’ve been so busy. With the shitty economy, I thought business would slow down, but instead its going full speed ahead. And my husbands band, Remo Gotzi (he’s the drummer), has been playing live shows recently, so I’ve been pretty busy. I created a website for him and also a YouTube channel for the band. I’m going to make their MySpace page pretty sometime this weekend. I am soooooooooo tired. I need some energy drinks asap. Check out the song Smokin’ from their performance last night:

It was Brian’s Birthday (the vocalist) too. He is such a sweetie pie! HAPPY B-DAY BRIAN!!!!!

Unfortunately, I ran out of film for the encore, which got so crazy that some guy fell into the back of my legs and there was broken glass near the stage too. I voted for a naked encore, but my dreams didn’t come true. :(

There’s also a few pics from the show here: Remo Gotzi 4/18/08 and I’ll be adding more when Ambie (bassist Pogi’s woman) sends me the pics she took.

The band was going to start recording their demo last week, but they were so tired from performing the night before, so they decided to try again next week. I can’t wait for them to finish it. They have really great songs. I’m not saying it because I am married to the drummer, but they are a really good band. People love them wherever they go.

Oh yeah… and I sang at Ernie’s last Friday night again. It was Sunday Morning by No Doubt. My voice cracked a couple times because we had been yelling over the loud speakers all night. It was fun though. I am getting more comfortable with it. :)
