Karaoke Heaven

May 5th, 2008 by April

karaokeI died and went to karaoke heaven last Thursday night, where I gave my best performance ever. I started doing some vocal training a few days before. On karaoke night, I was going those silly vocal exercises in the shower. You know…. the ones that make you sound like a drooling baby? Well, they must’ve worked because I actually did a good job singing! I chose You Were Meant For Me by Jewel. I had forgotten about that song until I heard someone sing it last week, so I thought I would give it a try. Jeff says I did well because I didn’t have time to think. I do have this BIG problem with thinking too much, which is why I literally lay there for 2 hours before I finally fall asleep. Anyway, I put my name on the list early because I was afraid of someone else getting to that song before me. Before I knew it, they were calling my name and everything moved so fast. I literally sang in a way I never thought I could sing and now… I just wanna sing sing sing all the time! Now I have to come up with more songs for karaoke night. Any ideas?

Remo Gotzi, Smokin’

April 19th, 2008 by April

Well, I’ve been crafty, but just digitally lately. I’ve been so busy. With the shitty economy, I thought business would slow down, but instead its going full speed ahead. And my husbands band, Remo Gotzi (he’s the drummer), has been playing live shows recently, so I’ve been pretty busy. I created a website for him and also a YouTube channel for the band. I’m going to make their MySpace page pretty sometime this weekend. I am soooooooooo tired. I need some energy drinks asap. Check out the song Smokin’ from their performance last night:

It was Brian’s Birthday (the vocalist) too. He is such a sweetie pie! HAPPY B-DAY BRIAN!!!!!

Unfortunately, I ran out of film for the encore, which got so crazy that some guy fell into the back of my legs and there was broken glass near the stage too. I voted for a naked encore, but my dreams didn’t come true. :(

There’s also a few pics from the show here: Remo Gotzi 4/18/08 and I’ll be adding more when Ambie (bassist Pogi’s woman) sends me the pics she took.

The band was going to start recording their demo last week, but they were so tired from performing the night before, so they decided to try again next week. I can’t wait for them to finish it. They have really great songs. I’m not saying it because I am married to the drummer, but they are a really good band. People love them wherever they go.

Oh yeah… and I sang at Ernie’s last Friday night again. It was Sunday Morning by No Doubt. My voice cracked a couple times because we had been yelling over the loud speakers all night. It was fun though. I am getting more comfortable with it. :)

The Drummers Wife

April 13th, 2008 by April

My husband and his band played their first show ever last Wednesday night and I was lucky enough to attend because my darling sister-in-law was fabulous enough to babysit. The show was really great, better than I expected. Not that I expected them to suck or anything, but their lead singer Brian sure knows how to scream his ass off. Dustin is a great guitar player and Pogi just rocks! Jeff is of course a great drummer, which everyone keeps saying, but he doesn’t take the compliment very well. He thinks that, because he hasn’t been playing for years and years, he sucks. But he doesn’t understand that sometimes things just come naturally to people. And I doubt other bands would be asking him to fill in for their drummer if he really sucked. He has played two other shows for another band recently and everyone seems to really like him. I am excited for him because he has been dreaming of this for a long time, ever since we moved to Texas and he couldn’t pursue acting anymore.

Its weird being the drummers wife. People I didn’t know seemed to know me and were awfully nice. I felt famous for an evening. Its a strange feeling. I made a bunch of buttons, necklaces, and stickers for the band and everyone seemed to like them.

You can see a video clip of one of their rehearsals here: rehearsal (although both of the guitars players on this video are no longer with the band. I need to go through a bunch of dvds to find some new clips. This was also before the lead singer Brian joined the band.)

My friend Mike (from Jeffs old band The Alter Theory, and a recording expert) has been helping me choose some recording equipment for my computer so I can finally record some of the songs I have been working on. I’m looking at these for now:

Desktop Recording Studio

Condenser Microphone

Microphone Shock Mount

Pop Filter

So yeah… next month when those tax rebates start coming in…. I’m going shopping!!!!!

Sammy News: Sammy can say Mommy, Daddy, Ducky, Cookie, Cocky, Hickey, and Poop. She can also say Yes, although it sounds like ASS.
